ProQuest offers new YouTube training videos

ProQuest is one of three major vendors of academic online databases. UML Libraries subscribes to over a dozen ProQuest databases that provide students and researchers with some of the broadest base of high quality research data in the sciences, social sciences, business, and humanities.

Now with the new ProQuest series of YouTube videos, users can quick and easily familiarize the use of the ProQuest platform. Anyone can view any of the recorded sessions below:

  • Introduction to the New ProQuest Platform: recorded, live: October 4 and October 20
    Learn how users search, find, use, and share research in exciting ways.
  • K-12 Introduction to the New ProQuest Platform:
    recorded, live: October 4, October 18, October 20, and October 24

  • Advanced Searching: Beyond the Single Search Box:
    recorded, live: October 11 and October 12, and October 24
    This session covers:

    • Advanced Search, Command Line, Look Up Citation, and Find Similar search forms
    • Identifying relevant subject terms with ProQuest Smart Search
    • Locating appropriate subject terms using the Thesaurus
    • Formatting a search using field codes, proximity operators and special characters
    • Creating a marked list and viewing selected items
    • Support and tutorials
    • Questions

Gale Powersearch 2.0 webinars

Gale’s new Powersearch 2.0 platform was released for Massachusetts regional library users on Tuesday, Sept. 1.  For those who would like to gain more familiarity with the new functionality, the MBLC has arranged for two Massachusetts only webinars to help regional members become more familiar with the new features. One important new aspect of the new platform that will be examined are the many customization opportunities for libraries to push meaningful content to users.

These webinars do not require advance registration.

The Massachusetts only webinars will be conducted by Stacey Knibloe on Wednesday, Sept. 9 at 11AM and Tuesday, Oct. 6 at noon. Instructions for logging on are provided below.  You just need access to the Internet and a separate telephone near your computer.
